| Fact
and Fiction - Flora Thompson and the Fewcott Part Book It
is well-known and well-documented that Flora Thompsons grandfather was a
church musician at Ardley Church. Through the detailed analysis of a hand-written
music manuscript book, which is both signed and dated by a local resident, an
interesting snap-shot of church musical history in North Oxfordshire will be revealed.
Full consideration will be given to the history of the gallery choir at Ardley
church and the repertoire played by the musicians. Furthermore the importance
of such local documents will be considered against national changes and trends
in church music at a time immediately prior to the introduction of printed hymnbooks.
